The Infamous Stringdusters Appear On ‘Inside The Musician’s Brain’ Podcast

The Infamous Stringdusters are featured on the latest episode of JamBase partner Osiris Media’s Inside The Musician’s Brain podcast. The show is hosted by Dusters banjo player Chris Pandolfi who takes a deep dive with his bandmates into their new album, Toward The Fray.

The beginning of the podcast see Chris spinning a bit of “I’m Not Alone,” a song from the album he called “one of my favorites.” Bassist Travis Book wrote the tune. “I’m gonna sit down with Travis,” Chris continued. “I’m gonna sit down with all the Dusters; I’m gonna sit down with myself. We are going to break down five of the new songs on this record.” Chris then gives a little background on creating an album during the pandemic through Zoom and other remote means, the challenges that presented as well as a silver lining.

The conversations got started with dobro player Andy Hall joining Chris to talk about his song, “When Will I Ride Again.” “WWIRA” is a continuation of the narrative of a tune off the band’s 2007 debut, Fork In The Road. “It’s a sequel to our old song “Tragic Life’ off our first record,” Hall explained.

Pandolfi also speaks with fiddler Jeremy Garrett about his song “Hardline,” which is an observation of the current social climate. “A lot of times I write what’s on my heart and what I’m feeling in the moment,” Garrett said, “what I’m experiencing, what I might be going through or what people around me are going through that sticks out to me.”

Travis Book then gave some insight on his song “I’m Not Alone,” and tells the fascinating backstory to the tune which was partially inspired by the bassist painting his house as well as a talk with Greensky Bluegrass’ Paul Hoffman. Chris then raps with guitarist Andy Falco on his number “Means To An End.” “This song was tailor-made for live Stringdusters shows,” Falco said. “From the conception of it, I was looking for something that is upbeat, fast and could potentially have a jam, which it does.”
