ulu Releases Knitting Factory 2002 Live Recording

79

ulu was a jam scene fixture during an eight-year career that spanned 1996 – 2004. The original lineup of the instrumental quartet took the stage for the last time 20 years ago today at NYC’s Knitting Factory and ulu celebrates the occasion by sharing official audio featuring the show’s first set.

ulu’s March 30, 2002 concert would be the last with the group for drummer David Hoffman and bassist Justin Wallace, while keyboardist Scott Chasolen and tenor saxophonist/flutist Aaron Gardner moved forward with a different rhythm section. The Knitting Factory audio from ulu’s archives marks their first release in 19 years.

The four-piece mixed jazz, funk and rock during live shows played across the country, including regular appearances at hometown venues the Knitting Factory and the Wetlands Preserve. ulu’s first set from 20 years ago featured such live staples as “The Tragic Flight of Sir Donkeyhawk,” “Scab” and “Killer Bees.” The second set arrives one week from today on Wednesday, April 6.
