Bob Weir and Wolf Bros stopped by the Tivoli Theatre in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Friday. The The Wolf Pack Strings would preside over the unveiling of the Jean-Luc Ponty instrumental “New Country” during the second set.
“New Country” emerged out of a “Playing In The Band” jam featuring The Wolf Pack: cellist Alex Kelly, violinist Mads Tolling, trombonist Adam Theis, trumpeter Brian Switzer and woodwind specialist Sheldon Brown.
Drummer Jay Lane hit a shuffling beat as Tolling began the opening strains of the track off French jazz-fusion violinist Jean Luc Ponty’s 1976 album, Imaginary Voyage. The Wolf Pack Horns would depart as Bobby and most of the band deferred to Tolling and Kelly, who played his cello like a standup bass.
