92

Phish drummer Jon Fishman along with Meters members George Porter Jr. and Cyril Neville teamed up with Maine Dead Project and more for a Go Big For Hunger benefit concert on Friday night. The show took place at Bayside Bowl in Portland, Maine.

After a few songs, Fish along with bassist George Porter Jr. and vocalist/percussionist Cyril Neville joined in beginning with The Meters “It Ain’t No Use.” GPJ led the group through the tune off The Meters 1974 album Rejuvenation before Cyril fronted the ensemble on a cover of The Beatles’ “Come Together” as well “Love Slip Up On Ya” off The Meters 1975 LP, Fire On The Bayou.

Fish and Porter would stick around to help another group on a cover of the James Gang’s “Funk #49,” the blues standard “Chicken Head” and the Jimi Hendrix-popularized “Hey Joe.” Cyril then came back out for “Fire On The Bayou.” A few other musicians joined in for Howlin’ Wolf’s “Smokestack Lightning” after which Porter departed.

Fish stayed on to help on Frank Zappa’s “Cosmik Debris,” Pink Floyd’s “Have A Cigar,” as well as songs from the Phish repertoire, “Gotta Jibboo,” “Bug” and more. Porter and Neville would also rejoin to help the ensemble close out the concert.
