Deacon Frey Departs Eagles

51

The Eagles announced Deacon Frey has left the band. Deacon, the son of late co-founding member Glenn Frey, departed amicably to “forge his own path.”

“Deacon Frey has devoted the past 4½ years to carrying on his father’s legacy and, after some weeks of reflection, he now feels that it is time for him to forge his own path,” wrote the band in a note on social media. “We understand, completely, and we support him in whatever he wishes to pursue in the years ahead.”

The announcement comes as the Eagles are in the midst of the 2022 leg of their Hotel California Tour. Deacon’s final show as a member of the band took place on November 6, 2021 in Seattle as he sat out previous Eagles 2022 performances. Next up for the group is a concert in Columbus, Ohio on April 19.

Both Deacon Frey and Vince Gill joined the Eagles in 2017 when the band reunited following Glenn Frey’s passing. Glenn died on January 18, 2016 due to complications of rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia. Deacon and Vince made their Eagles debuts in July of 2017 at the Classic West concerts in Los Angeles. The pair shared lead vocal duties on Glenn’s songs.
