Delicate Steve (Steve Marion) enlisted a number of his musical friends to contribute to the official music video for “Playing In A Band,” the latest single from his forthcoming studio album, After Hours. The clip features Kevin Morby, Waxahatchee (Katie Crutchfield), Cassandra Jenkins, Nels Cline of Wilco, Karina Rykman and many others.
After Hours is set for release on July 8 via ANTI- Records. Marion produced the 10-track follow-up to 2019’s Til I Burn Up. Steve wrote and recorded his upcoming LP on a 1966 Fender Stratocaster, a instrument that helped him fall back in love with guitar after a period in which he experimented with electronics and sonic manipulation.
The contributors to the “Playing In A Band” video each are seen performing along with the song. In addition to the previously mentioned musicians, the visual also includes Joe Russo, Marco Benevento, Dave Dreiwitz, Kali Flanagan, Jeremy Gustin, Lillie West, Scott McMicken, Jessica Dobson, Meg Duffy, Rob Thomas, Molly Hamilton, Reni Lane, Clementine Creevy, Matt Tillwick, Shahzad Ismaily, Pedrum Siadatian, Will Berman, Mauro Refosco, Rosie Slater, Emir Moheseni, Craig Finn, Zoë Brecher, Damon McMahon, Louie Duffelbags, Adam Green, Martin Bonventre and Raffale Martirani.
Marion shared the following regarding his new single:
“This song is about looking back at what it was like to be young and free and in a band with your friends, traveling around and playing music without care, meeting people, seeing the world. The song–the chords and music–just poured out of me without much effort in the studio, but the melody took a while and it was very hard to find what the song was trying to say. But I knew I had it when all of the notes were in the right places, and the song’s title came at that exact same time.”
