John Mayer welcomed country singer Maren Morris to the stage at his concert at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN Wednesday night. The Southern songstress joined Mayer to open the show with “Last Train Home”, which features her vocals on the original Sob Rock recording, and she returned at the end of the night to sing his 2006 hit, “Slow Dancing In A Burning Room”.

Maren Morris and John Mayer have teamed up before, joining forces in 2021 for the former’s performance of her song “The Bones” at the 2021 Grammy Awards and again when they collaborated on “Last Train Home”. Still, Morris could not help but acknowledge her excitement at Wednesday’s performance, exclaiming, “My high school self just died,” after concluding her contribution.

Like previous Sob Rock shows, Wednesday’s began with a short run of electrified full-band tunes followed by an acoustic interlude during which the Dead & Company guitarist embraced a gentler sound with support from backup singers Tiffany Palmer and Carlos Ricketts. The acoustic portion of the night featured notable bust-outs “Can’t Find My Way Home”, which had not been played since 2014, and “Hotel Bathroom Song”, which was previously performed just once in 2010, per Setlist.fm. Mayer concluded with the acoustic debut of “Shouldn’t Matter But It Does” off Sob Rock and a cover of “Free Falling” by Tom Petty before the band returned to the stage for eight more songs.

The second full-band portion included a snippet of Simon & Garfunkel‘s “Homeward Bound”, which was tucked into “Stop This Train” off of Mayer’s 2006 album, Continuum. The latter half of the show also featured other fan favorites like “Your Body Is A Wonderland” and “Slow Dancing In A Burning Room”, which Mayer invited Morris back up to sing. The two songbirds traded verses on the song, after which Mayer closed the set with “Wild Blue” and “Gravity”. He then returned to the stage for an encore that featured “Dear Marie” and “New Light”.

John Mayer’s Sob Rock tour continues through the end of April, with Yebba on as support for the remainder of the tour. To view a complete list of dates and to purchase tickets, click here.
