Panerai Unveils ‘Goldtech’ Perpetual Calendar Watch With Smoked Sapphire Crystal Dial

Panerai’s new gold-shrouded perpetual calendar watch is tougher than looks would indicate.

Unlike standard gold, the 42mm case and bezel are crafted from Panerai’s Goldtech alloy. Copper imbues the material with a rich and intense red hue, platinum prevents oxidation, and gold creates a glistening allure, along with the smoked sapphire crystal dial.

Panerai, which was the official watchmaker for the Royal Italian Navy long before it was a producer of high-price baubles, adds that Goldtech is “as durable as military-grade diving equipment”—this one is water-resistant to 50 meters.

Hypebeast notes that the P.4100 movement allows adjustment day, date, month and year through the crown. The sub dial at nine o’clock functions as both AM/PM indicator for the GMT and small seconds.

The day and date discs are just barely visible through the semi-transparent dial, while year, leap year and power reserve are visible through the caseback, which is also smoked sapphire.

Each costs north of $80,000, but there are a couple extras included with that price—an invitation to an exclusive “Panerai Experience” in the brand’s Florentine headquarters and some sort of NFT tailored to their itinerary.
