Multi-platinum British glam rockers The Darkness wreaked rock and roll havoc at The Masquerade in Atlanta, GA Saturday night. The band is currently touring in support of their 2021 release, Motorheart.

Featuring flamboyant frontman Justin Hawkins, guitarist/producer Dan Hawkins, bassist Frankie Poullain, and drummer Rufus Taylor, The Darkness are recognized not just for their musical talent and hit-making history, but also their sense of humor and prowess as world-class showman. From dazzling costumes and colorful, cartoonish stage design to acrobatic feats and silly onstage gags, the group’s performances recall the excesses of glam rock from the ’70s and ’80s, but dialed up quite a few notches.

Fans at Saturday’s concert were treated to new songs off of The Darkness’s latest album, Motorheart, as well as hits from the band’s past. “One Way Ticket”, off of their sophomore studio release, opened the show, followed by “Growing On Me”—one of the band’s biggest commercial hits. After giving the audience a taste of the familiar, the group offered “Motorheart” and other songs off their new album, which The Big Takeover calls “a glorious exercise in meaty arena rock guitar riffs and soaring falsetto vocals.” They pulled no punches at Atlanta venue, turning it up to 11 from their first notes and maintaining their bombastic energy until the encore, which featured the band’s biggest hit, “I Believe In A Thing Called Love”.
