Percussion ensemble Planet Drum returns with In The Groove, a new studio album due out on August 5 according to a report from Billboard . In The Groove marks the first LP from the Grammy-winning group led by Grateful Dead/Dead & Company‘s Mickey Hart since Global Drum Project in 2007.

Hart is joined in Planet Drum by fellow percussion superstars Zakir Hussain, Giovanni Hidalgo and Sikiru Adepoju. The band will play its first concert in 15 years this Sunday, May 1 at Frost Ampmphitheater in Palo Alto, California as part of a night that also features Bob Weir and Wolf Bros. Planet Drum will also perform at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York on August 5 and 6 to celebrate the release of In The Groove. Find ticketing info below:

Mickey, Zakir, Giovanni and Sikiru started recording In The Groove independently and eventually were able to work on the album together in person once COVID-19 numbers dropped. “I thought there was a great need for this,” Hart explained regarding the healing effect of drumming in a statement as per Billboard. “Rhythmic unity among cultures is what Planet Drum is about, and with the world in torment, it sends a powerful message of healing.”

Hussain described In The Groove as a “groove album,” and added the LP contains, “Very little virtuoso soloing, but four of us in sync within the groove adds up to something incredible.”

In The Groove is the outfit’s third album following a self-titled effort in 1991 and 2007’s Global Drum Project. Watch a trailer for In The Groove showing the musicians at work:
