The Avett Brothers began their 26-song concert, which touched on nearly every one of their studio recordings, with “The D Bag Rag” off their 2006 sophomore LP A Carolina Jubilee. Next came “The Fall,” “Down with the Shine,” “Another is Waiting” and “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise.”

After “Pretty Girl From Michigan,” Scott Avett delivered a solo banjo rendition of the traditional “Froggie Went A-Courting,” last time played on May 25, 2019, as per November Blue. Scott then took a breather as Seth Avett and bassist Bob Crawford dusted off “Operator (That’s Not The Way It Feels).” The Jim Croce classic was also last played on May 25, 2019.

Additionally, the main set contained favorites like “Laundry Room” off the band’s landmark 2009 LP I And Love And You followed by “I Killed Sally’s Lover” from Carolina Jubliee. The Avetts also performed material from their latest full-length, 2019’s Closer Than Together, in “Bleeding White” and “Long Story Short.”

After “The Ballad Of Love And Hate” from 2007’s Emotionalism, The Avetts took it back to their First Gleam EP (released in 2006) on ”Backwards With Time.” “Swept Away” off 2004’s Mignonette, “May It Last” from 2016’s True Sadness and I And Love And You’s “Slight Figure Of Speech” then prefaced a cover of Bob Dyan’s “I Shall be Released” along with set closer, the True Sadness favorite “Ain’t No Man.”

The Avett Brothers returned for a three-song encore beginning with the traditional “Black Mountain Rag.” The band then busted out “Good To You” from their 2013 album Magpie and the Dandelion. The Avetts last performed the song on April 11, 2015. The Avett Brothers capped off their Chicago run with “No Hard Feelings.”
