The War On Drugs dug deep into their repertoire to break out a The Waterboys cover during their concert on Thursday in Dublin, Ireland. Frontman/guitarist Adam Granduciel led the group through their first “A Pagan Place” in a decade to start last night’s encore at 3Arena.

The War On Drugs Dusts Off Neil Young Cover In Birmingham
Watch The War On Drugs cover Neil Young’s “Like A Hurricane” for the first time since 2018 on Monday at Birmingham, England’s 02 Academy.
“A Pagan Place” was originally released by The Waterboys as the title track to their 1984 studio album. The War On Drugs previously covered the song a handful of times in 2012 as per Setlist.FM.
Last night’s 17-song concert came as part of The War On Drugs’ extensive world tour supporting I Don’t Live Here Anymore. Granduciel and his bandmates went heavy on material from the 2021 LP in Dublin by fitting eight of its 10 tracks into the setlist.
The War On Drugs also looked to 2011’s Slave Ambient for “Come To The City” last night and 2014’s Lost In A Dream for “An Ocean In Between The Waves,” “Eyes To The Wind,” “Red Eyes” and “Under The Pressure.” Additionally, the group played “Pain,” “Strangest Thing” and “Thinking Of A Place” from their 2017 album, A Deeper Understanding. The latter followed “A Pagan Place” and gave way to I Don’t Live Here Anymore’s “Occasional Rain” as the evening’s three-song encore.
