Dave Matthews Band Plays ‘The Dreaming Tree’ In Texas

73

Dave Matthews Band performed “The Dreaming Tree” during their concert on Friday night at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands, Texas. The song, whose lyrics include the title to the band’s 1998 album Before These Crowded Streets, had not been performed by DMB since August 2015.

The show on Friday was the second night of the group’s current tour. The set got underway with “You Might Die Trying,” which last opened a Dave Matthews Band show in September 2013. Another unexpected setlist entry came a few songs later in the form of “Idea Of You.” According to DMBAlmanac.com, the track off of 2018’s Come Tomorrow had gone 147 shows between performances, having last been played in July 2019.

DMB offered a 13-minute mid-set “Jimi Thing” that worked in a bit of Sly & The Family Stone’s “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin).” The band also incorporated Little Feat’s “Dixie Chicken” within “Crash into Me.” In addition to the 10-minute “The Dreaming Tree,” Friday’s concert also saw a “Warehouse” and “Dancing Nancies” sequence spanning nearly 20 minutes.

“Grey Street” was chosen to close out the evening’s main set. The encore consisted of Daniel Lanois’ “The Maker,” followed by “Why I Am.” Watch the bust out of “The Dreaming Tree” below:
