Marcus King on Friday offered the second preview of his coming album, Young Blood, with the new single, “Rescue Me”. Out on August 26th, the 11-track homage to classic rock once again hears King teaming up with Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys) and his Easy Eye Sound imprint.

King shared a tale of two “Rescue Me”s on Friday by issuing a studio recording and a live rendition, filmed at Auerbach’s Easy Eye studio in Nashville. The studio single creeps in with the song’s central riff that bears comparison to Creedence Clearwater Revival‘s take on “Susie Q”. The live rendition, however, emerges from a low rumble as the power trio lineup of King, Chris St. Hilarie (bass) and Nick Movshon (bass) embody the Allman Brothers Band to bring the track to life. In both versions, King rises in the refrain to display his true voice rather than paying tribute to any legends of yesteryear.

“‘Rescue Me’ cuts a little deeper than the rest for me,” Marcus said in a press release. “This song is a literal cry for help, one of the least metaphorical tracks on the record and a memory that’s difficult to relive each night but is important to remember. This is also one of the first times I collaborated with our good friend, the amazingly talented artist/writer Andrew Gabbard.”
