Newport Folk Festival Adds ‘Mermaid Avenue, Volume 1’ Tribute Set To 2022 Lineup

Newport Folk Festival organizers tapped Bonny Light Horseman with Natalie Merchant and Friends to perform Billy Bragg and Wilco’s Mermaid Avenue, Volume 1 album at this year’s event. The famed festival returns to Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island July 22 – 24.

Bonny Light Horseman features Anaïs Mitchell, Josh Kaufman and Fruit Bats mastermind Eric D. Johnson. The Mermaid Avenue, Volume 1 tribute set will take place on Saturday, July 23. Released in 1998, the album features previously unheard lyrics penned by Woody Guthrie set to music composed by Wilco and Billy Bragg.

The 2022 Newport Folk Festival lineup also includes The National, Mandy Moore, Maren Morris, Lucius, Taj Mahal, Goose, Lucy Dacus, Valerie June and many others.
