Pearl Jam Performs ‘Faithfull’ At The Forum

45

Pearl Jam played “Faithfull” for the first time in nearly six years during their concert Friday night at The Forum. The show was the band’s first of two performances at the arena outside Los Angeles.

When Pearl Jam took the stage at the Kia Forum on Friday night, it was a special moment 834 days in the making. The band was originally scheduled to play this iconic venue in Inglewood, California in 2020 in support of their latest release, Gigaton. As the house lights went off, the roar of the crowd built until it reached its full peak as the band took the stage and proceeded to unleash song after song and hit after hit to a welcoming audience that fed off of the band’s energy and gave it back all night.

Jumping and swaying and grooving to the music all night, frontman Eddie Vedder worked every part of the stage to try to connect with as many groups of fans as possible. Drummer Matt Cameron and bassist Jeff Ament kept the rhythm tight and chugging along all night. They laid a great foundation for guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready to do their thing. Gossard’s tone was impeccable and his riffs were exact and memorable. McCready was a whirling dervish of searing guitar licks as he ran around, spun around, and jumped around all night while getting everyone on stage right engaged with his frenzied pace.

With the band bathed in blue light, they kicked off the night with “Of the Girl” off Binaural and then right into “Elderly Woman…” which immediately had the sold out crowd singing along as they did most of the night. Next up was “Superblood Wolfmoon” which was the first of six songs they played off of Gigaton, with “Quick Escape” being a highlight. Other setlist darlings included “Corduroy,” “Nothingman,” “Alive,” and “Even Flow,” which was dedicated to the band’s original drummer, Dave Krusen, who was in attendance and played on the band’s debut release, Ten. The crowd was bouncing in unison to the rhythm of the song, with fists raised high, as they belted the lyrics back at the band.

The performance of “Faithfull” came as the seventh song of a 16-song main set. The Yield track was last played by Pearl Jam on August 5, 2016.

“Yellow Ledbetter” closed out the performance on this night and it’s such a great song as it showcases Mike McCready’s guitar prowess. This band is at the top of their game and continues to be with these nightly, nearly three-hour, highly energized performances.

Kicking off the night was guitarist Josh Klinghoffer’s solo endeavor Pluralone. Prior to Josh taking the stage, Vedder greeted the crowd to a solo performance of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down,” before bringing Klinghoffer out on stage. Klinghoffer, a talented multi-instrumentalist, also welcomed Gossard for a song and Ament for a couple as he closed out his set in front of a hometown crowd. Klinghoffer also shared some time on the Pearl Jam stage as he lent his multi-instrumentalist abilities on some songs throughout the band’s performance.

This tour is just getting going, but the band is already in tip top shape. Don’t miss an opportunity to catch this show when it comes through your town as you’ll surely get a performance you won’t forget anytime soon.
