Fool’s Paradise, the fan-favorite destination music festival in historic St. Augustine, FL, will return from a five-year hiatus for its third edition on Saturday, June 4th and Sunday, June 5th, 2022 at the spacious St. Augustine Amphitheatre.
Leading the lineup at Fool’s Paradise 2022 are prog-jam heavyweights Umphrey’s McGee and future-funk outfit Lettuce, each scheduled to perform on both days of the festival. While the two bands embody largely different musical styles, their shared commitment to pushing creative boundaries has caused their paths to cross on numerous notable occasions through the years.
In St. Augustine, fans fondly remember Umphrey’s McGee and Lettuce’s Making Lemonade festival in 2015, a first-of-its-kind event that featured interchangeable sit-ins between the bands. That concept led to the 2016 launch of Fool’s Paradise, which has since seen both planned and surprise collaborations between renowned artists from across the jam, funk, and electronic spectrum including Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Vulfpeck, Oteil Burbridge, GRiZ, Chris Robinson, The Floozies, Jeff Chimenti, The Motet, Break Science, Manic Focus, and The Main Squeeze.
As we prepare for Umphrey’s McGee and Lettuce to write a new chapter in their intertwined history at Fool’s Paradise 2022, we’re revisiting a memorable UM/Lettuce moment from LOCKN’ 2018.
With Umphrey’s ready and waiting on the opposite side of the festival’s turntable stage, Lettuce capped a deep, psychedelic set with a rendition of Herbie Hancock‘s “Hang Up Your Hang Ups”. The performance continued as the stage began to rotate, revealing UM on the other side. With the stage halfway turned, Umphrey’s took over the ongoing “Hang Ups” without missing a beat. Lettuce saxophonist Ryan Zoidis and Eric “Benny” Bloom followed the party as the stage completed its rotation, ending up on the Umphrey’s side by the time the song was finished and the transition was complete.
“Gotta love it when a plan works out,” commented guitarist Brendan Bayliss.

Presented by Live For Live Music, Purple Hat Productions, GMP Live, and Rose Tours, Fool’s Paradise 2022 will also feature an appearance by raucous party outfit Andy Frasco & The U.N.; two sets by Isaiah Sharkey, the acclaimed neo-soul guitarist; a soulful duo performance by Jennifer Hartswick (Trey Anastasio Band) and Nick Cassarino (The Nth Power), and disco-funk DJ Flamingosis.
