Trombone Shorty Gets “Lifted” On ‘Colbert’ [Watch]

67

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert bandleader Jon Batiste has been away from the show with COVID, but viewers still got their dose of New Orleans jazz on Tuesday night thanks to NOLA legend Trombone Shorty, who stopped by New York’s Ed Sullivan Theater to perform the title track off his new album, Lifted.

Trombone Shorty, a.k.a. Troy Andrews, emerged dressed in all white with black shades flanked on either side by his 11-piece band, Orleans Avenue, who wore all black. Supported by two saxophonists, two background vocalists, two guitarist, and two drummers (in addition to bass and keys), the singer/trombonist delivered a soulful performance that lifted the spirits of the Late Show‘s studio audience.

The band played “Lifted”, the funky, soul-stirring title track from Trombone Shorty’s new album, which dropped at the end of April. The album also includes previously released singles “Come Back”, “What It Takes”, and “Everybody In The World”.
