After a two-year hiatus, Pickathon will return to Pendarvis Farm in Happy Valley, OR August 4th–7th, 2022 with a diverse lineup featuring indie rockers Built to Spill, jazz innovators Nate Smite + KINFOLK, Sons of Kemet, Nubya Garcia, Southern songstresses Valerie June and Faye Webster, and many more.
Held just outside Portland, Pickathon has become one of the Pacific Northwest’s premier experiential music festivals in the more than 20 years since its founding. Though past lineups have included top touring acts like Phil Lesh, Khruangbin, and Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, the festival specializes in breaking new artists.
This year’s lineup will feature fast-rising indie artists Goth Babe, Sampa the Great, and Quantic, as well as up-and-comers like Canadian country singer Bella White, San Diego soul band Thee Sacred Souls, indie songwriters Lomelda and Inner Wave, Eastern Oregon cowboy singer Margo Cilker, experimentalists L’Rain and Emma-Jean Thackray, and hip-hop fast-movers Armand Hammer, among many others. The lineup also includes recent Grammy winner Cedric Burnside, as well as New Orleans alt-country outfit Hurray for the Riff Raff.
Pickathon is revamping the design of the festival in 2022 with an eye to environmental sustainability, using the topography and natural setting of the site to design and build a series of neighborhoods nestled deep into the grounds of Pendarvis Farm. During the day, when the sun is high in the sky, festival-goers will enjoy new forested music stages set under the natural shade of Oregon’s evergreen trees, and as the sun sets, they’ll move to meadows with a picturesque view of Mt. Hood to enjoy open-air programming on stages that come alive at night.
“It’s amazing to feel the energy of the community coming together,” says Pickathon founder and director Zale Schoenborn. “This is going to be the best Pickathon ever, between the new design, the lineup, and everything we’ve got planned! We’ve always dreamed about bringing together a decentralized, deep-cut, genre-agnostic lineup like this. It took us a while to build all these connections to these different worlds, but it’s paying off now. The two years off because of COVID gave us the space to dream up the Pickathon we always imagined, and the outpouring of support from the community was the energy we needed to make it possible.”
