Willie Nelson & George Strait Perform Together In Austin

Texas country greats George Strait and Willie Nelson teamed up during Strait’s recent two-night run at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas over the weekend. While Nelson joined Strait both nights, night one was extra special as it was Willie’s 89th birthday and Strait led the audience in singing happy birthday to the legendary artist.

George Strait opened up his show on Friday and Saturday with “Here For A Good Time” and filled his set and encore both nights with additional favorites like “Check Yes Or No,” “I Can Still Make Cheyenne,” “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar,” “Amarillo By Morning,” “All My Ex’s Live In Texas” and more along with covers from fellow Texans in Austin-based singer-songwriter Bruce Robison (“Wrapped”) and Waylon Jennings (“Waymore Blues.”)

The Nelson sit-in began appropriately with George and Willie’s 2019 collaboration, “Sing One With Willie,” which was a live debut at a Geroge Strait concert according to SetlistFM stats. Strait and WIllie also delivered the Townes Van Zandt classic “Pancho And Lefty” seated with acoustic guitars backed up by Strait’s band. Willie would reprise the guest role with the same tunes the following evening.
