Amanda Shires unveiled “Take It Like A Man,” the title track single from her forthcoming studio album. Take It Like A Man is due out on July 29 via ATO Records.
The follow-up to the Nashville-based singer-songwriter’s 2021 holiday album For Christmas was produced by Lawrence Rothman. Take It Like A Man was both penned and tracked during lockdown and features Amanda’s husband, Jason Isbell, on several songs. The 10-track LP also includes guest appearances from Maren Morris and Brittney Spencer. Shires previously released the album’s lead single, “Hawk For The Dove.”
“Take It Like A Man” was co-written by Shires and Rothman. Initially, Amanda wrote the song’s final line as “take it like a man” but but wound up changing the lyric to “take it like Amanda” at the end of the session. “I realized you can try and do what they say and take it like a man and show that you can withstand anything. But truly you can only take it like yourself,” Shires explained.
The title track arrived with a live music video filmed by Weston Heflin at Nashville’s famed Columbia Records studio. Shires was backed by Isbell on guitar, bassist Jimbo Hart, drummer Julian Dorio, keyboardist Peter Levin and a string section consisting of Austin Hoke, Kristin Weber and Josee Weigand. Amanda Shires will support Take It Like A Man with an extensive North American Fall Tour 2022. The run includes tour dates throughout the U.S. and two stops in Canada between September 6 and November 20. Shires begins the trek in Asheville on Septeber 6 and hits such cities as Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Atlanta, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Nashville, Brooklyn, Austin and St. Louis before concluding the excursion in Omaha on November 20.
