Bruce Springsteen Joins Paul McCartney In New Jersey

Bruce Springsteen joined Paul McCartney on stage last night at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The final show of McCartney’s Got Back Tour of the United States saw Springsteen and McCartney play one of The Boss’ classics and a favorite by The Beatles. The surprise guest emerged again during the evening’s encore as well.

“OK, now we’ve got a little special surprise for you,” McCartney said as he addressed the crowd toward the end of the main set. “There’s a friend of mine, that’s a local boy – I think you’ve guessed him – he’s going to come and sing with us. Ladies and gentlemen: Bruce Springsteen!”

“Happy 80th birthday Paul,” Springsteen said as he took the stage in his home state. “Here’s to 80 more years of glory days.”

Springsteen then led McCartney and his band through the former’s “Glory Days,” from the 1984 album, Born in the U.S.A.. Springsteen stuck around for a subsequent performance of “I Wanna Be Your Man,” which was written by McCartney and John Lennon and recorded by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Springsteen came back out during the encore for the show’s “The End” finale.

The encore also featured fellow New Jersey native Jon Bon Jovi leading a rendition of “Happy Birthday To You” in honor of McCartney’s 80th birthday tomorrow.
