Dan Tyminski Details Tony Rice Tribute EP & Shares ‘Church Street Blues’ Single

80

Acclaimed bluegrass guitarist and vocalist Dan Tyminski announced One More Time Before You: A Tribute To Tony Rice, a guest-filled EP set for release via North Star Records on July 22. The 14-time Grammy winner previewed the six-track collection by sharing the EP’s lead single, “Church Street Blues,” featuring Molly Tuttle.

Tyminski has played guitar and mandolin as a member of Alison Krauss & Union Station for the past 28 years. Dan also fronts his own ensemble, The Dan Tyminski Band, and has collaborated with an impressive list of artists that includes Willie Nelson, Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton, Martina McBride, Kenny Chesney and numerous others.

Newgrass great Tony Rice inspired Tyminski to pick up guitar after Dan started out on mandolin and banjo. The Nashville-based musician was filled with grief when Tony Rice died on Christmas 2020. Dan poured his emotion into a song he wrote to honor his hero. “I cried all day on day one, and on day two, had written the instrumental part,” Tyminski recalled of a song that developed into “One More Time Before You Go.”

“One More Time Before You Go” is the title track of the forthcoming EP. Dan is joined on the track by Josh Williams, Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush and Todd Phillips. The rest of the collection is devoted to songs recorded by Rice over the course of his illustrious career. Dailey & Vincent, Billy Strings and Gaven Largent also contributed to One More Time Before You: A Tribute To Tony Rice.

Penned by Norman Blake, “Church Street Blues” served as the title track to Tony Rice’s iconic 1983 album. Tyminski stayed faithful to Rice’s arrangement for his version with fellow bluegrass guitarist Molly Tuttle.
