Dave Matthews Band Fits Tour Debuts Into Charleston Finale

75

Dave Matthews Band concluded their first visit to Credit One Stadium in Charleston, South Carolina on Saturday. The septet’s second of two nights at the venue featured a setlist that included tour debuts of the traditional “Rye Whiskey” as well as originals “That Girl Is You” and “Come On Come On.”

Saturday marked DMB bassist Stefan Lessard‘s 48th birthday. Lessard shined on the evening’s “You Might Die Trying” opener. Next came “Grace Is Gone” without the horns before Rashawn Ross and Jeff Coffin returned for “When The World Ends.”

The main set resumed with the year’s first “That Girl Is You.” The song appears on DMB’s most recent studio album, 2018’s Come Tomorrow. Dave Matthews Band also played “Can’t Stop,” “She,” “Samurai Cop (Oh Joy Begin)” and “Come On Come On” from the LP last night. “Come On Come On” was last performed way back on December 7, 2018.

Oldies “One Sweet World,” “Granny,” “Jimi Thing” and “Tripping Billies” were also among songs featured in last night’s main set. Additionally, DMB offered the frequently paired “So Much To Say”/”Anyone Seen The Bridge” and “Too Much” sequence. The group went on to close the frame by working “Dancing Nancies” into “Warehouse.”

Dave Matthews returned to the stage by himself to perform “Rye Whiskey” for the first time in a DMB encore since November 5, 2010. Matthews’ cover of the traditional song is in line with Pete Seeger’s version recorded in 1954. The rest of the band came back following “Rye Whiskey” to send fans on their way with the beloved “Two Step.”
