Dave Matthews Band made a stop in their home state of Virginia on Saturday at Bristow’s Jiffy Lube Live. Dave Matthews and company offered a number of tour debuts including a locale-appropriate tune.
DMB got the show underway with “That Girl Is You” from their latest studio album, 2018’s Come Tomorrow. The band then delivered a pair of early 2000s numbers, “When The World Ends” and “Grey Street” ahead of the relatively new tune, “Madman’s Eyes,” which they unveiled last fall. DMB’s longtime cover of Daniel Lanois’ “The Maker” followed ahead of the first tour debut of the evening, “So Right,” which features Dave on electric guitar.
Come Tomorrow’s “Come On Come On” came next before the band offered another cover in the form of the Peter Gabriel favorite “Sledgehammer.” “Lying In The Hands Of God” then prefaced “Don’t Drink The Water” and the vintage “Lover Lay Down.” Next, Matthews led the band through the first “Rooftop” of 2022. Come Tomorrow cut “Do You Remember” followed ahead of the classic “Crush” and another song premiered in 2021, “Walk Around The Moon.”
Dave then picked out the opening electric guitar strains to “Louisiana Bayou,” the third tour debut of the night. “You & Me” then proceeded set closer “Warehouse.” Dave would emerge solo to start the encore and teased the rarity “#40.” Matthews then said, “I might’ve played this the last time I was here, but I’m not sure. But I don’t play it very often. Hope it’s okay.”
Dave did indeed play “Virginia In The Rain” last time he was in Bristow — on July 20, 2019, as per DMBAlmanac — and delivered it once again at Jiffy Lube Live for the first time at a DMB show in 2022. The rest of the band then joined in for the classic closer “Ants Marching” to bring the evening to a close.
