Two monster tour buses were parked outside Brooklyn Bowl on Friday night, heralding the arrival of The Devon Allman Project and Samantha Fish Band‘s joint tour. Beginning in March of this year, the two acts have split bills across the country and offering their unique takes on modern blues-rock. The Devon Allman Project is an eclectic six-piece band that includes keyboards and two drummers, with R. Scott Bryan also stepping up to play sax. Samantha Fish features a more compact four-piece lineup but gives nothing up in terms of sonic depth.
Samantha took the stage first and immediately let everyone know she came to play, kicking the night off with “Bulletproof”. Other Fish favorites included “Bitch on the Run” and “Better Be Lonely”, but one of the highlights was an acoustic cover of Neil Young’s “Don’t Let It Bring You Down”. Fish is the star of the show—her guitar work is outstanding and her sultry presence undeniable—but she’s blessed with a terrific band who take their turns in the spotlight, none more so than Matt Wade on keyboards.

Devon Allman and crew followed, opening up with an extended jam. While no Devon Allman performance is complete without a tribute to the rich Allman Brothers Band legacy, Devon made sure to first highlight his own ABB, the Allman Betts Band he formed with fellow Allman family kin Duane Betts and Berry Oakley Jr. The band performed the title track to the Allman Betts Band’s 2019 debut Down to the River, alongside Allman Brothers classics including Devon’s father’s “Dreams I’ll Never See”.
