Greensky Bluegrass hosted Camp Greensky 2022 at Shagbark Farm in Caledonia, MI over the weekend. The band performed three nights in a row, playing a total of seven sets that included sit-ins from Lindsay Lou, Peter Rowan, Jay Cobb Anderson (Fruition), Bill Payne (Little Feat), Joshua Davis (Steppin’ in It), and Benny “Burle” Galloway.
GSBG opened its first set of the weekend with a cover of Black Sabbath‘s “War Pigs”. The arrangement was only the second cover played by the band this year, and it was the first in a string of pig-themed openers for the weekend. Friday night’s performance opened with The Stanley Brothers‘ “Pig in a Pen” and Saturday night the band began its first set with the live debut of Pink Floyd‘s “Pigs on the Wing Part I”.
After playing a few originals including “Absence of Reason”, “I’d Probably Kill You”, and “All Four”, the band welcomed Lindsay Lou, who sat in with the group throughout the weekend. The first song she sang with the band was Paul Hoffman‘s “In Control”, followed by “Beauty and Pain”. Joshua Davis then joined on guitar and vocals for the live debut of “Congratulations and Condolences”. He remained onstage for a cover of Steppin’ In It‘s “Butcher’s Girl”, after which the band wrapped up its first set of the weekend with “Courage for the Road”.
Thursday’s second set featured a sit-in from longtime friend and collaborator Benny “Burle” Galloway, who led the band through his songs “To Say Goodbye, To Be Forgiven” and “What’s Left Of The Night”. After the set, Lindsay Lou returned to the stage to join the band for the encore, “Better Off”.

Friday saw additional sit-ins during Greensky’s headlining sets, first from Lindsay Lou on “Grow Together”, and then from Peter Rowan, who joined in to play his songs “Fetch Wood Carry Water” and “Midnight Moonlight”. Lindsay Lou also provided vocals on “Lose My Way” with the live debut of “Hot Hands” sandwiched in the middle, and she returned to sing “Past My Prime”, the live debut of Jerry Garcia‘s “Gomorrah” and the band’s first rendition of The Travelin’ Wilbury’s “Handle With Care” of 2022.
On Saturday, Lindsay Lou joined the band once again for a first set performance of her song “Everything Changed”. The band then called up Little Feat’s Bill Payne to help finish the set with “Wings for Wheels” and “Ain’t No Bread in the Breadbox”.
After performing Lindsay Lou’s “Starman” with the singer in the middle of set two, the band welcomed Fruition’s Jay Cobb Anderson for a cover of Isaac Hayes‘s “Hold On, I’m Coming” and Dave Bruzza’s “Kerosene”.
Greensky Bluegrass then performed a special late-night campground set that included a cover of The Band‘s “The Shape I’m In”, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band‘s “Fishing in the Dark” with Lindsay Lou on vocals, Mississippi Sheiks‘ “Sitting on Top of the World”, and New Grass Revival‘s “Can’t Stop Now”.
