Jack Johnson Welcomes Zac Brown + Durand Jones & The Indications At Tour Opener In New Hampshire

74

Jack Johnson was joined by Zac Brown and Durand Jones & The Indications for guest apppearances during his tour opener in Gilford, New Hampshire. Johnson’s Tuesday night concert at Bank Of New Hampshire Pavilion was his first full-band performance in front of a live audience since 2019.

The singer-songwriter is touring North America through October in support of Meet The Moonlight, a new studio album set for release this Friday, June 24. Johnson and his band featuring multi-instrumentalist Zach Gill, bassist Merlo Podlewski and drummer Adam Topol delivered a 28-song performance in Gilford.

Jack got the concert underway with “If I Had Eyes” off 2008’s Sleep Through Static. Next came the pairing of In Between Dreams standout “Never Know” and “Flake” from Johnson’s debut solo album, 2001’s Brushfire Dreams. Then, Jack guided the band through Meet The Moonlight lead single “One Step Ahead.” The quartet would go on to play “Meet The Moonlight,” “Costume Party,” “Don’t Look Now” and “Calm Down” from the forthcoming LP.

The career-spanning concert featured a setlist heavy on cuts from 2005’s In Between Dreams as in addition to the aforementioned “Never Know,” the show also included takes on “Sitting, Waiting, Wishing,” “Breakdown,” “Banana Pancakes,” “Good People,” “Do You Remember” and “Better Together.” Johnson and company fit their rendition of Sublime’s “Badfish” in the eight-slot and brought out opening act Durand Jones & The Indictions for a debut cover of Stevie Wonder’s “A Place In The Sun” towards the middle of the main set.

Zac Brown emerged late in the main set to play guitar and sing on Tom Petty’s “You Don’t Know How It Feels” and the Steve Miller Band classic “The Joker.” The latter saw Brown insert lyrics from Sublime’s “Caress Me Down” within. Johnson and his band capped the set with “Mudfootball” and “Good People.” The band returned for a five-song encore consisting of “Do You Remember,” “Willie Got Me Stoned,” “Angel,” “Calm Down” and “Better Together.”
