Kurt Vile was the musical guest on Wednesday’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Vile teamed with The Violators for “Mount Airy Hill (Way Gone)” and also filmed a web exclusive performance featuring a solo acoustic cover of John Prine’s “How Lucky.”
“Mount Airy Hill (Way Gone)” is a track from (watch my moves), the guitarist’s recently released major label debut. The song takes its name from the Philadelphia neighborhood where he recorded the majority of the 15-track follow-up to 2018’s Bottle It In at his OKV Central home studio.
John Prine originally released “How Lucky” on his 1979 studio album, Pink Cadillac. Kurt Vile recorded a duet with Prine on “How Lucky” that was issued shortly after John’s death on Kurt’s Speed, Sound, Lonely KV (ep) in 2020. The five-song collection was recorded by Kurt Vile during sessions held at The Butcher Shoppe recording studio in Nashville.
