Lindsay Lou, Bill Payne & More Join Greensky Bluegrass At Camp Greensky

73

Greensky Bluegrass concluded their 2022 Camp Greensky festival event at Shagbark Farm in Caledonia, Michigan on Saturday. The quintet once again welcomed artist at large Lindsay Lou as well as keyboardist Bill Payne of Camp Greensky performers Little Feat and more.

Mandolinist Paul Hoffman got Greensky’s first set underway solo on acoustic guitar for the debut of Pink Floyd’s “Pigs On The Wing Part 1.” The rest of the band — guitarist Dave Bruzza, dobroist Anders Beck, bassist Mike Devol and banjo player Michael Bont — then emerged for “Leap Year.” A pairing of staples “Wish I Didn’t Know” and “It’s Not Mine Anymore” followed before the band linked up “Monument” and “Streetlight” from their 2022 album Stress Dreams.

Lindsay Lou then reprised her guest role, emerging to lead GSBG, sans Bruzza, through her “Everything Changed,” (first time played) on vocals and guitar. Dave then returned to front Greensky on his “Wings For Wheels,” which also featured the keyboard stylings of Little Feat’s Bill Payne. Bill stayed on for set closer, a cover of Norton Buffalo’s “Ain’t No Bread In The Breadbox,” which featured a spirited exchange between Payne and Beck.

“Before Bring Out Your Dead” and “Bring Out Your Dead” began the second set ahead of “Screams” and “Murder Of Crows.” “Reasons To Stay” then headed into the band’s classic cover of Pink Floyd’s “Time” including the “Breathe Reprise.” Lindsay Lou then returned to help Greensky unveil a cover of David Bowie’s “Starman.”

A coupling of “What You Need” and “Demons” followed before Fruition’s Jay Cobb Anderson joined in for the Issac Hayes-co-write and Sam & Dave classic “Hold On, I’m Coming.” Anderson stayed on for second set closer, GSBG original “Kerosene.” Greensky encored with the title track to their 2019 album, All For Money.

Continuing a Camp Greensky tradition, Greensky Bluegrass then convened in the campground for a late night set, which the quintet launched with originals “Burn Them,” “Fixin’ To Ruin” and “Bottle Dry” before turning to cover material with The Band’s “Shape I’m In.” Lindsay Lou then joined back in for Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s “Fishing In The Dark” as well as the standard “Sitting On Top Of The World.” Greensky would go it alone for New Grass Revival’s “Can’t Stop Now” ahead of their own “Reverend.” Greensky Bluegrass closed out the campground set with “Tied Down.”
