Magic Beans will put out the all-instrumental new studio album Unzipped on July 7. The Colorado-based jam quartet previewed the LP by releasing its lead single and opening track, “Stank Eye.”
The 10-track Unzipped was recorded at Denver’s Suede Studios. Magic Beans — keyboardist Casey Russell, bassist Chris Duffy, guitarist Scott Hachey and drummer Cody Wales — were joined on three cuts by percussionist Will Trask. Hachey handled production and mixing duties.
“This record is pretty much a Magic Beans alter ego, one of our split personalities. We took an experimental approach diving into the lo-fi instrumental realm, using analog synths, tape machines and vintage gear,” stated Hachey in a press release. “There’s a lot of influence from producers and collectives like Timbaland, Souliquarians and Vulfpeck – musicians who developed a signature vibe solely through the instruments and recording equipment they had access to. We want the instrumentals to exist as they are and carry wherever you wanna go, without lyrical direction. All around its a just a little sexy side piece of an album for our fans to enjoy.”
Magic Beans prepped a “House Party Video” for “Stank Eye.” The clip comes with a hilarious note from the band. “Management said we needed to make some content and gave us a budget,” wrote Magic Beans. “We spent it on beer, bbq, and had ourselves a house party. Got the video done though. Thats show biz baby.”
