Philadelphia, PA jam-electronic stalwarts Lotus have announced a new album, Bloom & Recede, due out August 29th via AntiFragile Music. While fans will have to wait until Friday for the album’s latest single, “Time Dilates”, Live For Live Music is thrilled to bring you an exclusive sneak peak of the track today by way of a live studio performance.

To capture this live rendition of “Time Dilates”, Lotus got comfortable in a converted warehouse studio in Philadelphia, PA complete with full concert sounds and lights. Tim Palmieri leads the way on the live performance of the new track with a guitar-forward sound that harkens back to Lotus’s early days. The Miller brothers, Luke and Jesse, provide their patented psychedelic ambiance behind him, helping the song’s seven-minute runtime float by as “Time Dilates” around the listener. Tim finally comes back around to snap listeners back to reality with an endorphin-inducing solo you feel all the way up your spine.

“During the pandemic, Time seemed to go topsy-turvy,” Luke Miller tells Live For Live Music. “Things seemed to last forever, or be gone in a blink of the eye. This song to me has a similar split where it feels very ethereal and floaty and at the same time grounded and earthy. The live version for the video really comes to life with the extended improvisation.”

Bloom & Recede will mark Lotus’ first studio album with former Kung Fu guitarist Tim Palmieri, who replaced founding Lotus guitarist Mike Rempel last summer. The band has released two previous singles set to be featured on Bloom & Recede, “Pluck” and “Tar Pits“.

“‘Time Dilates’ exists in a musical space where electronic production and psychedelic rock have been passed back and forth so many times the genre lines disappear,” Jesse Miller adds. “Quivering synth chords and a leaping modular synth melody set the scene for a shimmering guitar line. The second half of the song dives head first into the rock side with lead guitar and piano seesawing between major and minor harmonies. I hear influences coming from Boards of Canada, Brian Eno’s recordings with Robert Fripp, Air, Pink Floyd.”

Lotus will take the new material on the road this summer with stops at Electric ForestSacred Rose, the band’s own SummerdanceResonance, and more. For tickets and a full list of tour dates visit the group’s website.
