Roger Waters returned to The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Tuesday to perform The Wall classics “The Happiest Days Of Our Lives,” “Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2” and “Another Brick In The Wall, Part 3.” The Pink Floyd co-founder was backed on Colbert by the band for his upcoming This Is Not A Drill Tour, which begins in Pittsburgh on July 6 and continues through October.
The legendary musician made a few changes to his band since his last tour, Us + Them in 2017 and 2018, as vocalists Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe are busy with Lucius and Bo Koster is on the road with My Morning Jacket. Renowned keyboardist Robert Walter (Greyboy Allstars, Mike Gordon, 20th Congress) is handling organ duties with Waters while Amanda Belair and
Shanay Johnson are on backing vocals. Roger’s band on Colbert was rounded out by Us + Them Tour contributors Jon Carin (keyboard), Jonathan Wilson (guitar), Gus Seyffert (bass), Dave Kilminster (guitar) and Joey Waronker (drums).
The upcoming tour was initially scheduled for 2020. Waters postponed the excursion due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “This Is Not A Drill is a groundbreaking new rock & roll/cinematic extravaganza, performed in the round,” Roger wrote in a press release announcing the trek. “It is a stunning indictment of the corporate dystopia in which we all struggle to survive, and a call to action to love, protect, and share our precious and precarious planet home. The show includes a dozen great songs from Pink Floyd’s Golden Era alongside several new ones — words and music, same writer, same heart, same soul, same man. Could be his last hurrah. Wow! My first farewell tour!”
“The Happiest Days Of Our Lives,” “Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2” and “Another Brick In The Wall, Part 3” were each originally recorded by Pink Floyd for their iconic 1979 studio album, The Wall. The medley was part of the setlist for the Us + Them Tour.
