‘Squid Game’ Has Officially Been Renewed For A Second Season

Netflix has officially confirmed a second season of Squid Game, the South Korean survival drama series that took the world by storm last year, becoming the most-viewed original title on the streaming platform within less than a fortnight of its arrival.

Earlier today, Netflix shared two posts on its Instagram account confirming the show’s return. The first shows an eerie robot doll, similar to the one that appeared in the first episode of the series, with the number two flashing red in its eye. “On your marks. Get set. Greenlight. Squid Game continues,” reads the post’s caption.

Another post featured a message from Hwang Dong-hyuk, the show’s creator, director, writer and executive producer. “It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever,” he writes. “As the writer, director and producer of Squid Game, a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show.”

“And now, Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming. The man in the suit with ddakji might be back. You’ll also be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend, Cheol-su. Join us once more for a whole new round.”

There’s been rumblings that a second season of Squid Game was on the cards for some time, following the huge success of the first after it premiered last September. In late October, Hwang Dong-hyuk said he was in discussions with Netflix for a follow-up, and early this year, Netflix’s co-CEO Ted Sarandos said another season was on the way during an earnings call.
