Watch Phish Perform 34-Minute ‘Sand’ In Noblesville: Pro-Shot Video

Phish unveiled pro-shot video featuring the otherworldly “Sand” from their Sunday, June 5 concert in Noblesville, Indiana. The monstrous 34-minute version opened the quartet’s second set at Ruoff Music Center.

“Sand” was originally debuted by Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio‘s 8 Foot Fluorescent Tubes ensemble at Higher Ground in Winooski, Vermont on April 17, 1998. The song was played frequently by the Trey Anastasio Band during the project’s first tour in 1999 and has been a TAB staple ever since. Phish first performed “Sand” at The Gorge on September 11, 1999. Over 100 versions have followed with Sunday night’s among the quartet’s best.

Some of the elite jams in Phish history are great because they do one or two things incredibly well — funkfests, bliss jams, etc. Others, like Sunday night’s “Sand,” build entire worlds around themselves, unfolding like a novel with a beginning, middle and end, and numerous ups and downs along the way. This jam covered light and dark; outrageous peaks and jagged grooves; as well as terrain that defies any description, other than one: it’s pure, essential Phish.

Phish’s three-night stand in Noblesville completed the spring leg of their tour. The band kicks off the summer leg in Mansfield, Massachusetts on July 14.
