61

A scary scene took place during Santana‘s performance at Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan on Tuesday night, when legendary guitarist Carlos Santana collapsed onstage. The 74-year-old musician is currently recovering and “doing well” according to a statement from his team.

Santana has been on the road as part of a co-headlining tour with Earth Wind and Fire. Carlos went down approximately 50 minutes into his set. The guitarist was “over-taken by heat exhaustion and dehydration” after introducing “Joy,” a song co-written with Chris Stapleton for Santana’s 2021 studio album, Blessings And Miracles.

Black drapes were set up between the stage and the crowd while medical officials and crew members tended to Carlos. “As you can see, we have a severe medical emergency. Let’s share our prayers…we need that right now,” tour manager Paul “Skip” Rickert told the crowd as per The Oakland Press. The concert was cut short and Carlos waved at fans while leaving the stage on a stretcher nearly 20 minutes after his collapse.

Carlos Santana was brought to the emergency department at nearby medical facility McLaren Clarkston. The guitarist spent the night at McLaren Clarkston for observation. Santana posted a message on social media last night thanking fans for their “precious prayers” and noting he “forgot to eat and drink water so i dehydrated and passed out.” Read the full post and view an image and video from the scene below:
