Dinosaur Jr. welcomed special guest Courtney Barnett for a performance of “Feel The Pain” on Friday. The rendition of the alt-rock mainstay’s 1994 hit came on the long-standing festival’s first day.
Barnett was spotted backstage earlier in the day commiserating with Dinosaur Jr.’s J Mascis, sparking rumors of a sit-in at the Rhode Island festival known for its cross-pollination. Even through the wall of Marshall stacks onstage, Barnett’s reverence for her indie forefathers shone through as she took vocals on the Without A Sound track.

In August, Barnett will lead the traveling Here And There festival around North America with a rotating lineup including Japanese Breakfast, Waxahatchee, Chicano Batman, Sleater-Kinney, and more for single-day shows in 15 cities.
