Dave Matthews Band Plays ‘What You Are’ & ‘Oh’ In New Hampshire

60

Dave Matthews Band kept the tour debuts coming by performing the year’s first versions of “What You Are” and “Oh” during their concert in Gilford, New Hampshire on Wednesday. The septet closed out a two-night stand at Bank Of New Hampshire Pavilion with a 19-song main set and two-song encore.

The classic “Tripping Billies” featuring the theme from Lost In Space intertwined kicked off the show. Dave Matthews & Co. then covered Daniel Lanois “The Maker.” Last night was the first time “The Maker” appeared in the two-slot since January 29, 1993 according to DMB Times. Next, staples “Funny The Way It Is,” “Crush” and “Stay Of Leave” came ahead of the tour’s fourth performances of “The Stone” and “Rooftop.”

DMB returned to frequently played in 2022 material with “Break For It” and Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” before offering “Stolen Away On 55th & 3rd” and “Say Goodbye,” each for the fourth time this year. A full-band “So Damn Lucky” paved the way for heavy rotation original “Walk Around The Moon.” Dave Matthews Band then performed the tour’s first “What You Are.” The song from DMB’s 2001 studio album Everyday disappeared from setlists between May 31, 2013 and May 18, 2013. Two additional plays followed in 2018 along with a lone take in 2020 and four versions in 2021, including the previous performance before last night on November 13, 2021.

While it took Dave Matthews Band nearly a month to fit “Lie In Our Graves” into a 2022 setlist, the song has been played six more times since its triumphant tour debut with special guest Derek Trucks in Jacksonville, Florida on June 7. “Lie In Our Graves” followed “What You Are” last night and spanned a tick over 11 minutes. Hit single “The Space Between” came next. DMB then paired “Squirm” and “Two Step” to end the set for the only time besides June 9, 2009.

Dave Matthews emerged solo to start the encore in similar fashion to nearly all stops on the tour. Matthews looked to his 2003 solo album, Some Devil, for tour debut “Oh” to get the encore underway. “Oh” was performed by Dave and Tim at The Gorge last summer after previously appearing at a DMB concert way back on September 2, 2016. The night came to a close with the rest of the band also contributing to the tour’s second performance of “Everyday.”

The tour moves on the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden, New Jersey on Friday and Saturday. Tune in to SiriusXM’s Dave Matthews Band Radio (Channel 30) on Friday night to hear a live broadcast.
