Gogol Bordello will release a new album entitled Solidaritine on September 16 through Casa Gogol/Cooking Vinyl. The band also confirmed tour dates in support of the album featuring the singles, “Focus Coin” and “Forces of Victory.”
Members of the seven-piece band helm from a variety of locations, including Ukraine, Ecuador and Russia. The 13-track Solidaritine was recorded with acclaimed producer Walter Schreifels and saw the band revisit several “punkier” songs recorded during sessions for their last LP, 2017’s Seekers & Finders.
Gogol Bordello will tour in support of Solidaritine with their North American Fall Tour 2022. The band will set out on October 20 in Pittsburgh and continue performing across the United States and Canada before landing in Seattle on November 14. Tickets go on sale on Friday, July 22 at 10 a.m. local venue time. Presale tickets will be available on Wednesday, July 20 and on Thursday, July 21. Scroll down for the full schedule of tour dates.
Frontman and Ukraine native Eugene Hutz described the band’s music and making their eighth studio album, stating:
“This is music of survival and perseverance. That’s always been our main driving force. We just want to give the world a timeless album with messages of human potential and power …
“Our music was always about perseverance. Rock ‘n’ roll comes out of a real place. Take a group of people who have endured immigrant traumas and dislocation. They create music, get successful together, become more baroque and experimental, and experience some years of relative calm. All of a sudden, humankind encounters these problems like the pandemic and the war. This is when rock ‘n’ roll is the most necessary and where we perform the best …
“I started playing punk rock as a kid. So, I was going back to it. I realized music was a really great way to levitate above all of these trials of life.”
Guests contributors include H.R. of Bad Brains on “The Era of the End of Eras,” and Ukrainian poet and novelist Serhiy Zhadan and electro-folk band Kazka appear on the previously shared single, “Forces of Victory.” The latter song was originally recorded for Gogol Bordello’s fourth album, 2007’s Super Taranta!, and appears on Solidaritine with reworked lyrics.
“It’s a very extreme hardcore number, but here’s the mystical part of it,” Hertz added. “It originally appeared on Super Taranta! When we recorded the first version of it, a lot of things were unintentionally empty. Entire chunks of the song are instrumental. This year, the words came to me in like five seconds for those parts, and they were distinctly about dignity, integrity, and resilience. The righteous cause of Ukraine is undeniable.”
