Lake Street Dive detailed the return of their Fun Machine covers EP project containing songs from Carole King, Dionne Warwick, Shania Twain and more. The band previewed Fun Machine: The Sequel, which arrives on September 9 via Fantasy Records, with Bonnie Raitt’s “Nick Of Time.”

Lake Street Dive released their Fun Machine EP in 2012 and the cover of The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” therein helped launched their career. Ten years later and the band — vocalist Rachael Price, bassist Bridget Kearney, drummer Mike Calabrese and keyboardist Akie Bermiss — is back with Fun Machne: The Sequel, recorded at Brookyln’s Figure 8 Recording as well as Lucy’s Meat Market in Los Angeles. Robin MacMillan handled production duties on the record which also contains contributions from touring guitarist James Cornelison.

“Imagine you walk into your favorite local dive bar and Lake Street Dive is on stage, doing our regular weekly gig for $5 a head. These are the songs we’d be covering there and how we’d be playing them,” the band said of the EP. “Some deep cuts, some sentimental favorites and some (hopefully) epic crowd pleasers.”

Those songs include the Carole King classic “So Far Away,” The Pointer Sisters-recorded “Automatic,” Dionne Warwick’s Burt Bacharach/Hal David-penned “Anyone Who Had A Heart,” Shania Twain’s “You’re Still The One” and more. The first preview of the EP is Lake Street Dive on Bonnie Raitt’s “Nick Of Time.” Listen below:
