Lizzo sparkles on her highly anticipated new album, Special, released on Friday via Nice Life and Atlantic Records.
On the follow up to 2019’s Cuz I Love You, the “body normative” pop star expands on her signature brand of inclusive, empowering pop. The record features previously released singles “About Damn Time”, which has become a viral hit thanks in part to its popularity on TikTok, and “Grrrls”, which received media attention when Lizzo rerecorded the song with new lyrics in response to backlash over her use of an ableist slur.

Notably, Special does not feature any collaborations or special guests—a rare occurrence in today’s music industry, and surprising for Lizzo, who has worked with big names including Cardi B, Ariana Grande, and Harry Styles in the past. The multi-talented singer, rapper, dancer, and flute player embodies the album’s title, unabashed as she claims the spotlight for herself.
