Maddy O’Neal teamed up with producer/trumpeter Balkan Bump (Gramatik, Talib Kweli) for her latest single, “Follow Me”. Out now across streaming platforms, the single marks the second from the rising bass starlet’s upcoming sophomore LP, out in September.
“Follow Me” highlights the stylistic diversity that has made O’Neal a name to watch in the electronic scene. Trap beats collide with liquid funk flourishes as Balkan Bump’s live trumpet gives the single a tangible quality to hold onto. Vocalist Home Malone‘s hook comes in to top the whole thing off with dub influences, adding yet another color to O’Neal’s musical palette.
“Horn sections and electronic music definitely have a sweet spot in my heart,” O’Neal said. “When I started ‘Follow Me,’ I heard an almost TroyBoi-inspired bass heavy beat with a trumpet line cutting through the track. When I tapped Balkan Bump we were both immediately on the same page. There are so many merging genres and inspirations in this one track that make it super unique from anything I’ve heard.”
O’Neal will take “Follow Me”, the album’s lead single “Never Fades“, and more selections from her continuously expanding catalog on the road this summer and fall. She is set for festival dates at Lollapalooza, Secret Dreams, Same Same But Different, Lost Lands, Hulaween, and others, in addition to headlining dates in California, Illinois, Montana, Texas, and more.
