Marcus King shared a new single, “Blood On The Tracks.” The song will appear on the guitarist and singer-songwriter’s forthcoming Dan Auerbach-produced album, Young Blood, due out on August 26 via American Records/Republic.
Marcus King once again worked with The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach — who presided over King’s Grammy-nominated 2020 debut solo LP El Dorado — to produce Young Blood. “These songs are live performances,” Auerbach said of the new record. “The whole damn thing is live—the solos and everything. It’s so rare in this day and age.”
Marcus and Auerbach shared details on Young Blood in April along with the single “Hard Working Man.” King followed with “Rescue Me,” “Lie Lie Lie” and now, “Blood On The Tracks.” Dan and Marcus co-penned the new single with renowned songwriter Desmond Child, who has worked with Alice Cooper, Joan Jett and Aerosmith among others.
Marcus shared his experience collaborating with both famed musicians on the tune and more:
“’Blood on the Tracks’ was the first song we wrote for the record, it was also my first time meeting Desmond Child. He’s 100% unapologetically himself at all times, and that charmed me immediately. I really enjoyed working with Dan and Desmond on this tune, they both have such an acute sensibility for a ‘hook’ it is scary! The song essentially tells the story of moving forward or being taken down by the trouble you are facing – catching the train or the bloodier alternative. Every writing session for this record started with a conversation, an opportunity for my collaborators to take a peek inside my soul and the pain I was carrying around.”
As with previous singles, “Blood On The Tracks,” premiered by Garden & Gun, arrived with a live performance video captured at Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound Studio in Nashville with bassist Nick Movshon and drummer Chris St. Hilaire. Stream the video below along with the studio version:
