New Nectar’s Owners Detail Plans For The Burlington Venue

Famed Burlington, Vermont music venue Nectar’s has new owners. Promoter Ed Maier is now Nectar’s managing partner and he spoke with the Burlington Free Press about the new ownership group’s plans for the legendary property.

Maier has a long history in the music industry that includes founding the company ElmThree Productions which booked concerts mainly in New Jersey. Ed and his partners, who he declined to name to the Burlington Free Press, bought Nectar’s from Noel Donnellan, Chris Walsh, Jason Gelrud and Peter Picard. The new operators took over the venue and the upstairs room currently branded Club Metronome on July 26.

The new owners tapped Vermont lighting designer Jason “Liggy” Liggett (Mike Gordon, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Saturday Night Live) to swap in new stage lighting both at Nectar’s and on the top floor of the 180-192 Main Street property. Out will come the Metronome bar as Nectar’s will team with JamBase partners Osiris Media to create an in-house podcast studio. “Osiris North” will open this fall for both podcast recordings and live events. Additionally, Nectar’s will begin streaming sold-out and free concerts in 4K video according to what Maier told the Burlington Free Press.

Nectar’s trademark gravy fries will still be available along with elevated food offerings recently introduced. Maier would like to open the venue up for lunch “a few days a week, possibly Thursdays through Sundays,” Maier advised.

Ed Maier will utilize his experience and the goodwill Nectar’s has fostered since opening in 1975 for Nectar’s Presents, a part of the Nectar’s business that organizes off-site events and manages and promotes musical acts. “I gave up my company to be here as well as some of my partners gave up their companies to be here [with Nectar’s Presents],” Ed explained. Those partners are Matt Kolinski (Omni Arts Group), Brett Fairbrother (former Strangefolk and RAQ manager) and Ian Miller (AFT Artists).

The band honored original owner and namesake Nector Rorris by naming their 1992 major label debut album A Picture Of Nectar and dedicating the LP to Rorris.
