Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh tested positive for COVID-19 and will not appear with The String Cheese Incident at Red Rocks on Sunday (July 17). SCI will still perform the third show of their three-night run at the venue near Denver, promising to still honor the music of the Grateful Dead.

According to the message shared by The String Cheese Incident, 82-year-old Lesh has a mild COVID-19 case. A rescheduled The Phil Lesh Incident collaborative concert is expected to be announced after Lesh fully recovers.

Sunday’s SCI concert at Red Rocks will now feature three sets. The band noted a “really good friend” will be part of the performance. Refunds are available for those with tickets no longer wishing to attend Sunday’s concert.

The String Cheese Incident kicked off their three night run at Red Rocks last night. Yonder Mountain String Band opened the concert and sat in on a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Mississippi Half-Step Toodeloo.” SCI plays Red Rocks tonight, Saturday, July 16 with support from Leftover Salmon.
