Saxophonist Tia Fuller joined Dave Matthews Band for a cover of The Isley Brothers’ 1969 hit “It’s Your Thing” during the septet’s concert on Tuesday in Gilford, New Hampshire. Fuller also augmented DMB’s horn section on “Jimi Thing” and “When The World Ends” last night at Bank Of New Hampshire Pavilion.
Tia Fuller created The Sax Loft with fellow saxophonist Kirk Whalum and Dave Matthews Band saxophonist Jeff Coffin. The saxophonists use the site to provide instruction on the instrument and take part in chats with members. Fuller’s resume also includes touring with Beyoncé, releasing five full-length studio albums and providing the sound behind character Dorothea Williams’ saxophone in Pixar’s 2020 film Soul.
Fuller emerged 10 songs into last night’s concert for a well-extended “Jimi Thing” interspersed with “I Want To Take You Higher.” Tia then contributed to Everyday standout “When The World Ends.” The guest spot concluded with DMB’s first “It’s Your Thing.” Dave Matthews shared lead vocal duties on The Isley Brothers song with keyboardist Buddy Strong. Matthews was content to sing and dance while only occasionally strumming his acoustic guitar.

The evening began with “One Sweet World,” the fifth time the song dating back to the band’s earliest days opened a 2022 concert. Classics “Grey Street” and “#41” followed before DMB looked to 2018’s Come Tomorrow for “That Girl Is You.” A rare “Seven” then gave way to staple “Warehouse.” Next came the group’s recently premiered cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Fool In The Rain.” From there, the group offered “Madman’s Eyes,” “You & Me” and “So Right” ahead of Fuller’s appearance.
After Tia vacated the stage, DMB served up the “Pantala Naga Pampa”/”Rapunzel” pairing. The seven-piece went on to end Tuesday’s main set with “Ants Marching.” Matthews went it alone for a solo take on the traditional “Rye Whiskey” to start the encore.
The rest of the band returned for the “All Along The Watchtower” finale. Bassist Stefan Lessard provided a solo intro to “Watchtower,” which featured a brief excursion through Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven.” Last night’s show included four covers, the most of any 2022 DMB concert thus far. Dave Matthews Band closes their two-night stand at Bank Of New Hampshire Pavilion tonight.
