St. Vincent (Annie Clark) spent the past week sitting in for Jon Batiste with The Late Show With Stephen Colbert house band Stay Human. Clark and Stay Human covered Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” to lead into a commercial break during St. Vincent’s residency and video of the performance has been shared on the Colbert YouTube channel.
Stay Human has been led by Louis Cato in Batiste’s absence. Annie was the first of three guitarists who will help fill in for Jon Batiste as James Taylor will perform with Stay Human next week before Joe Walsh starts his run with the band on August 8.
St. Vincent and handled lead vocals and played guitar on “Dreams.” Cato, saxophonist Louis Fouché and trumpeter Jon Lampley each took stellar solos on the song written by Stevie Nicks and first released on Fleetwood Mac’s iconic Rumours album in 1977.
Only the studio audience at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City had been witness to the full jazzy rendition until footage of the cover was posted on YouTube as part of Colbert’s “The Late Show Commercial Breakdown” series.
