Ani DiFranco Joins Brandi Carlile In Chicago

56

Brandi Carlile brought out Ani DiFranco during her concert on Saturday in Chicago. The pair of singer-songwriters collaborated on DiFranco’s “32 Flavors” as part of the encore at Huntington Bank Pavilion.

“Greatest night I’ve ever spent in Chicago!!,” Carlile wrote. “There was unbelievable energy and goodness coming from the audience. I’m INCREDIBLY grateful to have finally gotten to play a show with the absolute pillar that is [Ani DiFranco]. Me, [Carlile’s wife] Catherine, and [Celisse] fully fan-girled the entire day.”

During her introduction, Carlile called DiFranco a hero to everybody onstage and to those in the audience. DiFranco, who opened the concert, emerged to accompany Carlile and her bandmates on “32 Flavors,” which appeared on DiFranco’s 1995 album, Not a Pretty Girl. Watch the collaboration below:

The encore also saw fellow opener Celisse join Carlile on the former’s song “Freedom.” Saturday’s concert included a performance of “Happy Birthday” in honor or “The Twins,” Carlile’s longtime bandmates Phil Hanseroth and Tim Hanseroth, whose birthday was Sunday.
