Black Sabbath’s Ozzy Osbourne & Tony Iommi Reunite For Commonwealth Games Performance

44

Black Sabbath co-founders Ozzy Osbourne and Tony Iommi reunited for a performance in their hometown of Birmingham, England. Ozzy and Tony teamed up for the Sabbath classic “Paranoid” during the closing ceremonies of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games on Monday.

Vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward founded Black Sabbath in Birmingham in 1968. In 1970, the heavy metal pioneers released their landmark sophomore album, Paranoid. While Ozzy and Sabbath infamously parted ways in 1979, Osbourne, Iommi and Butler reunited for a farewell tour in 2016-17 and Iommi recently made his first appearance on an Ozzy solo album, Patinet Number 9, which is due out in September.

The Birmingham Commonwealth Games appearance marked Ozzy’s first since 2019 as he’s been dealing with health issues. Joining Osbourne and Iommi for their recent performance of “Paranoid” — which was proceeded by a snippet of “Iron Man” — were former Black Sabbath touring members drummer Tommy Clufetos and bassist Adam Wakeman.
