52

Bonny Light Horseman released “Exile,” the latest single from their forthcoming studio album, Rolling Golden Holy. The band featuring Anaïs Mitchell, Eric D. Johnson (Fruit Bats) and Josh Kaufman also announced a U.K. headlining trek and added tour dates to their December run on the East Coast.

Rolling Golden Holy, the trio’s sophomore full-length studio album, arrives via 37d03d Records on October 7. Josh Kaufman produced the 11-track follow-up to Bonny Light Horseman’s self-titled 2020 debut LP. The record was captured over the course of two sessions in Upstate New York, one at Aaron Dessner’s Long Pond facility and the other at renovated church Dreamland. Bonny Light Horseman previously shared Rolling Golden Holy singles “California” and “Summer Dream.”

“Exile” opens Rolling Golden Holy and mixes banjo, piano and synths with gorgeous vocals from Johnson and Mitchell. Eric D. Johnson shared the following in regards to the song:

“The lyrics of this one, open-ended as they may be, are filled with primal and mythological fears—lion’s dens, hurricanes, wild eyes and the deep dark. Fears that are conquered by, naturally, love love love. But please, feel free to take what you want from this one, story-wise. And if nothing more, throw it on and do a slow-spin groove in front of your speakers.”
